Washington County, Georgia, is situated in east central Georgia at the intersection of Highway 15 and the Fall Line Freeway, half way between Atlanta and Savannah and halfway between Macon and Augusta.
The Washington County Public School district is comprised of 4 schools and an Alternative School program: Ridge Road Primary School, Ridge Road Elementary School, T.J. Elder Middle School, and Washington County High School.
The District and all schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Georgia Accrediting Commission. Washington County High School has advanced to a higher level of performance, being named as one of three high schools in Georgia as an "Exemplary School," offering advanced placement courses, honors level college preparatory courses and joint enrollment in 2 local colleges.
The system's administrative offices, state-of-the-art technical training center, and transportation department are housed at 501 Industrial Drive in Sandersville, which is the county seat.
Dr. Rickey Edmond serves as Washington County School Superintendent. The elected board is composed of Chairman Chris Hutchings, Vice Chairman Sammie Knight, and members Gladine Thompson, Tracy Giddens, and Randy Mayberry.
